MONTEREY, CA (Pittsburgh Racing Now) – NTT Data Chip Ganassi Racing’s Felix Rosenqvist is the 2019 NTT IndyCar Series Rookie-Of-The-Year edging out Harding Steinbrenner Racing’s Colton Herta by five points.

Rosenqvist came into the series finale at WeatherTech Raceway at Laguna Seca with a 49-point lead over Herta, who won the pole position and the race.

Rosenqvist countered with a masterful drive, charging from his 14th starting position to a fifth-place finish.

“It was exciting with Colton starting P1 and us in 14th for the Rookie battle,” said Rosenqvist, a 28-year-old from Sweden.  “He led almost ever lap.  We managed to pass a ton of cars and executed perfectly.  Well-deserved for all the NTT DATA guys on a season-long effort.”

Rosenqvist’s rookie campaign saw him score two 2nd place finishes, six top-5’s and ten top-10’s in 17-races.  Herta scored two victories but only had three top-5’s, and eight top-10’s.

“Yeah, that’s still the missing part,” said Rosenqvist about not scoring a victory this year.  “At least we made it more exciting with the rookie championship.  Colton did an amazing job.  I think he’s going to be one to watch nest year, so big congrats to him.”

Rosenqvist will be one to watch as well as he finished sixth in the IndyCar Points Championship behind Josef Newgarden, Simon Pagenaud, Alexander Rossi, his teammate Scott Dixon, and Will Power.  Five of those drivers are IndyCar Champions.
