(Williams Grove, PA May 15, 2021): Aaron Reutzel held off Giovanni Scelzi to score his first World of Outlaws victory and claim the Morgan Cup for the touring stars. Reutzel owns three wins with the All Stars Circuit of Champions at the famed speedway.

“To win at Williams Grove is great, but to do it against the Outlaws is special,” Reutzel acknowledged. Reutzel got some help from an unexpected source. “A lapped car showed me the rubber. I got up next to him but he drove away from me and I knew that it was time to get down,” he explained.

After scoring wins in his heat race and the Dash, Reutzel started on the pole. Giovanni Scelzi was next to him, with Kerry Madsen and Anthony Macri behind this duo. Brad Sweet and his teammate, James McFadden, made it a Kasey Kahne third row, T.J. Stutts and Kyle Larson had row five. Friday’s antagonists, Carson Macedo and Lance Dewease were paired in row six for this one.

Reutzel stormed out front, with Scelzi scrambling to stay ahead of Macri. But the remarkable early moves came from Dewease, who was fifth on the opening lap. He was fourth by lap five, and third by lap twenty.

The partisan crowd was hoping for a caution flag that would bring Reutzel back to Dewease, who was struggling to get past a lapped car as he chased Scelzi for the second spot. The racing gods did not smile on Dewease, however. Scelzi managed to get by the slower car and it was he who would close in on Reutzel for a dramatic finish to the race that want without any interruptions whatsoever, “I ran as hard as I could for thirty laps,” Scelzi said. Unlike Reutzel, Scelzi stayed in the high groove for the entire race. “It was starting to clean off but it took rubber on the inside,” he noted.

While he did not get the prestigious win, Dewease was satisfied. “Actually, I thought we were pretty good and then the rubber came in and got me tight.” “Once the rubber came in, I knew I was done,” he added. Dewease was charitable toward the lapped car that seemed to thwart his advance over the final ten laps or so. “That lapped car wasn’t doing anything wrong, but he messed up my entry into three.” dewease noted that with Scelzi racing next to the lapped car, there was not enough room for him to slide up ahead of Hot Sauce, as Scelzi is affectionately known.

Reutzel, Scelzi, and Dewease grabbed the podium positions. Macri was fourth and Madsen fifth. Larson, McFadden, Donnie Schatz, Logan Schuhart, and Stutts completed the top ten.

In addition to Reutzel, heat winners were McFadden, Macri, and Larson. The B Main victor was Ryan Smith. Scelzi set the fastest lap in time trials, leading Group A with a lap of 17.624 seconds. David Gravel topped Group B with a round of 18.444 seconds.

Williams Grove Speedway will have a doubleheader for 410 and 358 Sprints on May 21. Then, on May 28, the All Stars Circuit of Champions will return for the Davey Brown Tribute race.
