SARVER, PA (Pittsburgh Racing Now) – The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series invades Lernerville Speedway tonight for the annual Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup.
David Gravel is the defending Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup winner. Gravel also won the event in 2016 and captured the Commonwealth Clash in 2017. Gravel and his Jason Johnson Racing team are on a streak of eight top-10s in a row, including their second win of the year at Wilmot Raceway.
A couple of drivers to never count our are WoO points leader Brad Sweet. Sweet has never won the Don Martin Memorial but is the two-time defending Commonwealth Clash winner, so he knows how to get around “The Action Track”.
Ten-time series Champion Donny Schatz sits two points behind Sweet for the points lead and comes into Lernerville on a bit of a roll with four top-fives in a row – three of them runner-up finishes. Schatz also has 8-wins at Lernerville including three Don Martin Memorial victories (2017, 2014 & 2013).
Another driver to watch is Logan Schuchart. Schuchart and his Shark Racing team has five wins this year, with two of them coming at the 4/10-mile Jackson Motorplex track. Sweet also won at Jackson in June. Lernerville is 4/10-mile.
A couple of local drivers to watch out for are Carl Bowser, who sits atop the Lernerville People’s Natural Gas 410 Sprint Car points standings. Bowser is coming off a victory last Friday night.
Brandon Spithaler is off to a strong start in 2020. Spithaler sits 15-points behind Bowser in the Lernerville standings and has visited victory lane twice at Tri-City in 2020.
Lernerville track Champions A.J. Flick, Jack Sodeman Jr will be in the hunt as will Dan Kuriger and Sye Lynch.
All eyes however will be on Kyle Larson. Larson and the No. 57 Paul Silva owned Sprint Car have won five-straight events, sweeping the Bob Weikert Memorial Weekend at Port Royal this past weekend, less than a month after winning the Pennsylvania Sprint Car Week Championship. Larson won the Don Martin Memorial in 2018.

On July 6th the All-Stars will return for the $25,000-to-win ‘Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup XXXI’, one of the most prestigious Sprint Car events in the history of the sport.
“We’re very excited to bring in the All-Stars and their thrilling brand of high-level Sprint Car racing” said Lernerville Speedway General Manager Mike Lysakowski said in a statement. “I have always been a fan of the All-Stars and for 2022, we had more freedom in choosing a date for this year’s Silver Cup. We believe we have chosen a date that is very conducive to bringing both national and regional Sprint Car aces to Lernerville.”
