WATKINS GLEN, NY (Pittsburgh Racing Now) – Chip Ganassi Racing’s Kurt Busch and Kyle Larson each finished in the top 10 in Sunday’s Go Bowling at The Glen Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Watkins Glen.
Kurt Busch started 7th in the No. 1 Monster Energy Camaro. Busch ran in the top 10 the entire first stage and finished 9th in Stage 1. Sunday was Busch’s birthday and while he didn’t get a win, he did finish 10th.
Busch remains in 7th place in the standings, three-points ahead of Watkins Glen race winner Chase Elliott. Busch is locked into the playoffs based on his win a few weeks ago at Kentucky.
Kyle Larson started 5th in the No. 42 McDonald’s Chevrolet and finished 8th. Larson led laps 23-28 and finished the race’s first stage in 7th place.
Larson’s eighth place race finish helped him gain some ground in the fight for the NASCAR Playoffs. Larson sits in 14th place, 34-points ahead of 15th place Clint Bowyer and 46-points ahead of 16th place Jimmie Johnson. The top 16 in points qualify for the playoffs.
Larson tweeted out after Sunday’s race that he’s glad to gain some ground on the cut line and is looking forward to the upcoming race at Michigan, where he won three consecutive races from August 2016 and both races in 2017.
Nice top 10 for us today. Pulled away from the cut line a bit too which was nice. Now time for my favorite week of the year. Happy to have @McDonalds with us for all of it this coming week! Let’s go win the #KnoxvilleNationals and then a Cup race on Sunday at @MISpeedway

“I always look forward to racing at Michigan International Speedway,” said Larson. “The track is definitely special to me since it’s where I got my first win. There’s also a lot of pride on the line when we race there, with Chevrolet and Ford both headquartered in the State. All of us Chevy drivers want to put the Bowtie-brand in victory lane. I’m looking forward to being there.”
